Measuring the Frictional Behavior and Adhesion of PET Bottles

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), due to its excellent physical and chemical properties, has become a widely used packaging material for liquids across many consumer market segments. However, one of the most common problems met in bottle manufacturing is pile-up bottles during conveying, static electrification caused by localized friction. To minimize such phenomena, thin lubricant layer applied onto bottles. The absence increases risk sticking phenomena pileups. In this work, an attempt made study frictional behavior commercially available PET bottles, with without lubrication using high precision light load technique. By analyzing complete tribological pattern tangential force not just averaged values, events can be identified. addition, performing indentation-retraction measurements electrostatic forces bottle-to-bottle contact measured. combining friction adhesion methods, better understanding achieved which then translated optimizing (minimizing) amount used.
